ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Claudia Tessier is an internationally recognized specialist in healthcare informatics. She is perhaps best known as the long-time CEO of the American Association for Medical Transcription (AAMT) from 1984 to 2001, but her qualifications related to Healthcare Documentation both precede and follow that experience. She began her work in the industry in 1964 as secretary to the Physician-in-Chief of Children’s Hospital in Boston MA, and she worked for one of the original medical transcription companies (Dictation West in San Francisco and Riverside CA) in the 1970s. She earned AHIMA’s professional certification RRA (now RHIA), from the US Public Health Service Hospital program in Baltimore Maryland in 1979 and taught medical record administration at both the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago and the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Tessier has been involved in and influenced the industry in a variety of roles related to healthcare documentation: mHealth, EHRs, health informatics standards organizations (ASTM E31, ANSI-HISB, CorbaMed, ISO TC215) and medical coding (ICD-10-CM/PCS). She now runs an online course facilitating the transition of medical transcriptionists to professional medical coders.
